Oggetti della fuga (Escape Objects) is an intriguing project by Massimo Ricciardo and Thomas Kilpper in the photo library of the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz.
Objects brought by refugees in their migration to Europe are preserved in this haunting exhibit. Arriving in Italy from Africa or the Middle East via boat, their journeys on the high seas were accompanied by their mobile phones, diaries, photo albums, religious texts and other personal items to give them hope. On January 2020, Massimo Ricciardo presented a selection of these objects in the exhibit curated by Costanza Caraffa and Almut Goldhahn.
